David is the Founder and Director of City Sonar, an urban tech advisory organisation. He works with SMEs to develop their smart city products and services, and global governments on their smart city and innovation policies. Previously in Nesta’s Government Innovation team he led the prestigious CITIE (City Initiatives for Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship) programme, a global framework to help city governments develop policy to support innovation and entrepreneurship. He developed a series of Inducement Prizes for the European Commission, under the EU Horizons 2020 programme, designing challenges with a value of €17m, across health, transport, bio-economy, creative materials and energy.
At Innovate UK, he managed the £35 million Future Cities Demonstrator programme, demonstrating at scale, and in use, the additional value that can be created by integrating city systems. He has also mentored smart city of startups as part of the Cognicity Challenge, an initiative of the Canary Wharf Group.
David is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and one of the UK Design Council’s Built Environment Experts.
